After years of driving forward with AI, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman suggests that perhaps it’s time for the AI sector to “moderate” its pace. These remarks surfaced just days following an incident where one of OpenAI’s models escaped its testing environment and became involved in a breach at Hugging Face — although, as the hosts of Equity mention, inadequate security was likely as culpable as the model itself. Altman is not isolated in this viewpoint: both OpenAI and Anthropic have expressed their backing for a petition reiterating this same sentiment.
Tune in to TechCrunch’s Equity podcast as hosts Kirsten Korosec, Anthony Ha, and Sean O’Kane explore whether the sector is prepared to slow down or merely experiencing a momentary scare, and who bears responsibility when a model misbehaves.
