
OpenAI disclosed on Friday that ChatGPT has achieved 900 million weekly active users, bringing the AI chatbot closer to the milestone of 1 billion. The organization also revealed that it currently boasts 50 million paying subscribers.
“The growth in subscribers has significantly accelerated as the year commenced, with January and February poised to become our largest months ever for new subscribers,” the company stated in a blog entry. “Users turn to ChatGPT for learning, writing, planning, and creation. As usage expands, the product enhances in ways that users notice instantly: quicker responses, improved reliability, enhanced safety, and more consistent performance.”
The updated figure of weekly active users signifies an increase of 100 million from the 800 million users that OpenAI reported in October 2025.
OpenAI disclosed the updated statistics as part of its announcement regarding a $110 billion raise in private funding, highlighting one of the most significant private funding rounds ever. This fresh funding includes a $50 billion investment from Amazon, along with $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank, and is positioned at a $730 billion pre-money valuation. The funding round is still open, with the company anticipating additional investors to come onboard.
